Open Fields is a collection of work by American painter Drew Hires.
An award winning art director and designer, Hires worked in the publishing
world for over three decades. At the same time, he built a large body of work as a
fine artist. Many of his images are informed by his work in modern media, but there
are strong connections to nature, to the primitive and to material.
Public showings of his paintings have been fairly rare. Hires had a number of
one-man shows in Atlantic City, NJ (his point of origin) in the early 1980s, and was
a regular contributor at The Emerging Collector (an alternative gallery in lower
Manhattan) in the late 80s and early 90s. For the most part, he has kept a low
profile, far off the gallery grid.
A pop-up show with his brother and fellow painter Christian, drew some attention
in the summer of 2018, resulting in a January 2019 exhibit at the Lapham Gallery in
Glens Falls, NY.
Thanks for looking at the work.
